In this role, there is the opportunity to - + Interact with laboratory customers courteously and professionally, responding to inquiries promptly. + Procure blood specimens using venipuncture, heelstick, and fingerstick, following patient identification procedures. + Instruct patients on proper collection methods for laboratory specimens, ensuring correct sample acquisition. + Demonstrate dependability and independent judgment, recognizing priorities and adapting to department needs. + Transport specimens from on- and off-site locations to the laboratory, adhering to safety procedures. + Adhere to established hospital and laboratory policies, including quality control, safety, and isolation precautions. + Perform clerical tasks, entering demographic information and test data into the information system accurately. Required + High school diploma or equivalent Preferred + Certification from an accredited Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant program + Experience performing phlebotomy + Medical terminology knowledge and laboratory information system experience **Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:** Phlebotomy Technician (PBT(ASCP)) or equivalent certification preferred. **UPMC is an Equal Opportunity Employer/Disability/Veteran**
