Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Phlebotomist for an inpatient position. The ideal candidate will be responsible for greeting patients, performing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, decontaminating equipment, and updating patient information. The role requires the collection and storage of specimens according to established procedures while providing excellent customer service.
ResponsibilitiesGreet patients as they enter the lab and explain procedures in a clear and courteous manner.Perform venipuncture (blood drawing) using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.Collect and store specimens such as blood, urine, or fecal samples as required.Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.Ensure all test requisitions or computer labels are 100% correct.Package specimens for transport while maintaining the integrity of the samples.Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and attend annual department trainings.Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.Prepare the site, handle insurance, billing, and process samples.Essential SkillsProficiency in drawing blood and blood collection techniques.Experience with venipuncture, including using straight needles, butterfly needles, syringes, and blood culture.Excellent customer service skills.High School Diploma or GED.At least 6 months of phlebotomy/venipuncture experience in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.Previous customer service experience in any setting.Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.Additional Skills & QualificationsAbility to take feedback well and eagerness to learn.Patient-first mindset.Positive, hardworking, and collaborative personality.Proven reliability and positive attendance.Work Environment
This position is located at Labcorp @ Legacy Emanuel, 501 N Graham St, Portland, OR. The schedule is Monday-Friday, 6:00 PM-4:00 AM with rotating weekends. The contract duration is initially set for 3 months, with potential extensions based on performance and business needs. The work environment is fast-paced, requiring adherence to safety protocols and excellent customer service. The dress code is lab-appropriate attire.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
