UPMC Chautauqua is seeking a full-time Phlebotomist to join our team, serving variable daylight shifts between 4:00 AM – 5:30 PM, with rotating weekends and holidays. In this role, you will be responsible for performing accurate and efficient specimen collection, including venipuncture, heelstick, and fingerstick procedures. In this role, there is opportunity to –
Procure blood specimens via venipuncture, heelstick, and fingerstick, following proper patient identification procedures. Instruct patients on specimen collection procedures, including non-blood samples, when necessary. Demonstrate dependability and reliability, exercising independent judgment to prioritize tasks and meet department needs. Transport specimens from off-site and on-site locations to the laboratory, following established safety protocols. Adhere to laboratory and hospital policies on procedures, quality control, safety, and infection control practices. Perform clerical duties, entering demographic information, test orders, and ensuring sample and patient data accuracy in the system. Train and orient new employees, students, and residents, ensuring compliance with laboratory standards and procedures. Interact courteously and professionally with laboratory customers, responding to telephone inquiries promptly.
