Job Description
We are seeking an experienced phlebotomist who is skilled in blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, decontamination, and updating patient information. The ideal candidate will have experience in high-volume patient service centers or oncology centers and be adept at using straight needles and butterfly needles.
ResponsibilitiesCollect and store specimens according to established procedures.Clearly and courteously explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collection methods to patients.Demonstrate technique/s using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.Fully understand and follow all physicians' orders.Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes, label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.Package specimens for transport.Store specimen samples according to required temperatures, place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, and accurately label them.Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.Attend annual department trainings.Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.Essential SkillsBlood drawBlood drawingPhlebotomyHigh volume blood draw experienceStraight needle experienceCentrifugeBlood pressureAdditional Skills & QualificationsGED or HS DiplomaPhlebotomy experience in a high-volume patient service center or oncology centerWork Environment
The position is based in Closter, NJ, with working hours from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm on Mondays and Fridays ONLY. The work involves processing specimens in the back area, which includes centrifuging, processing SPM, and entering data into the system to be sent to the main lab electronically. The ideal candidate must be able to keep up with a high-volume, fast-paced environment and have experience with difficult sticks. Adaptability and the ability to deal with different personalities are essential, as patients may be going through challenging times and need positive energy. The phlebotomist should aim not to stick patients more than twice. No certification is needed for this phlebotomy position.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
