Phlebotomist (CMA)

The Medical Assistant/Phlebotomist responsibilities include performing limited laboratory procedures and procurement of blood samples and assisting in the day-to-day clinical & administrative operations to support the delivery of safe, high quality clinical care, treatment, services and workflows. The Medical assistant/phlebotomist in the office setting is a specialty requiring a variety of skills, including but not limited to: Receptionist, registration duties, data collection for billing procedures, charge posting, maintains appointment schedules, and provides appropriate patient instructions per physician orders. This position will be assigned to cover any Front Office and/or Medical Assisting assignment and can be cross-trained throughout Primary Care and Specialty Practices.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
•    Draws and collects blood samples from patients while verifying patient identity against the laboratory order.
•    Prepares specimens for laboratory analysis
•    Communicates with all patients and families in person/ via phone, including greeting, identifying self by name and role and retrieving and returning phone calls in a timely manner and take appropriate action
•    Reviews with the patient each medication individually, confirms medication name, dosage, frequency, asks for new medications.
•    Appropriately schedules patients for appointments.
•    Scans appropriate information into patient’s medical record.
•    Performs chart scrubbing prior to visit (reviews that preventative measures are up to date- mammograms, colonoscopies, etc)
•    Triages patient phone calls and takes appropriate action.
•    Obtains accurate BP, apical pulse, respiratory rate, and pulse oximetry, and temperature measurements.
•    Generates intake and records basic information about presenting and previous conditions. Completes all required intake data.

EDUCATION AND RELATED EXPERIENCE:

Required:

Phlebotomy Certificate or phlebotomy training as a part of a Medical Assisting program. Demonstrated phlebotomy competency completed in first 90 days. High School diploma or GED. Demonstrated strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to work well as a member of a team.

Preferred:

Demonstrated MA competencies or equivalent MA experience gained through any of the following: MA Certificate, Associates degree in Medical Assisting, CNA (or LNA), EMT, PCT certificate, or Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant Program. Previous experience in an ambulatory or specialty practice setting. Bi-Lingual speaking, Spanish and English.
