Description:Responsible for the collection of blood samples from inpatients throughout the hospital. Also responsible for receiving specimens in the laboratory, loading on the track system for processing, centrifigation of specimens when appropriate. Position requires an experienced, highly-skilled technician who can work with a minimum of supervision. Must have kind, caring, compassionate demeanor. Must be a team player and responsible for reporting to work as scheduled.The Phlebotomist:Properly identifies the inpatients using the hospital identification wristband and scannerProperly identifies and labels patients specimens for Blood Bank testing using the positive patient identification system.Uses appropriate aseptic technique to draw blood culturesClearly and accurately labels all specimens immediately after venipuncture and completes necessary documentationEvaluates specimen adequacy Receives specimens in the computer and delivers them to the appropriate departmentMonitors inventory levels and follows appropriate protocol for re-ordering suppliesDeletes or cancels orders as necessary with full documentation of reason and colleague they spoke with.Collates requests, answers the telephone, delivers specimens to appropriate department and operates the pneumatic tubeConsistently assumes responsibility for calls, correctly answers questions, directs inquiries and takes messagesCollects TIMED and STAT tests within designated time periodMaintains supplies, carts, workstations in a neat, clean and orderly mannerPerforms other related duties as required
Qualifications:
High School Diploma/Equivalent requiredPhlebotomy Certification preferred
