Our dedication to diversity includes a unified workforce (through training and education, recruitment, retention, and development), commitment and accountability, communication, community partnerships, and supplier diversity ESSENTIAL ​FUNCTIONS: Receives the physician request; properly identifies patients; collects blood specimens from patients; and promptly draws and correctly labels the specimens. Uses developed scripts for specified patient interactions and maintains a pleasant relationship with patients, visitors, and staff.. Accurately performs venipunctures, heel sticks, and finger sticks, ensuring proper specimens for testing as well as ensuring patient safety.  Ensures delivery of the specimens to the processing area as soon as possible to maintain specimen quality.   Follows established procedures and policies to obtain optimal test turn-around-times. Uses a computer to review and receive laboratory orders. Handles incoming and outgoing telephone calls utilizing excellent customer service skills.  Proficiently uses office equipment to provide clerical support and maintain files. Cleans and stocks phlebotomy cart and maintains work area. Meets defined workload productivity standards.  Supports and utilizes LEAN principles.    Fully understands and is committed to providing quality service to all clients, both internal and external.   MARGINAL FUNCTIONS: Functions as a team leader in absence of a team leader.   Trains new employees and students.   Performs special department projects as designated.   Serves on hospital and laboratory committees as approved by supervisor/manager.    MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: High school diploma or G.E.D. required. Completion of certified phlebotomy course, 1 year previous phlebotomy experience, or successful completion of phlebotomy courses as part of another degree or certificate program required. Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to population served within 3 months of hire.
