Job Title: Phlebotomist I

Job Description

Position Responsibilities: Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, decontamination, and updating patient information. Collect and store specimens according to established procedures. Properly explain in a clear and courteous manner the process of venipuncture, blood drawing, and other specimen collections such as urine or fecal as required. Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles. Fully understand all of the physicians' orders. Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order. Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% correctness. Package specimens for transport and store specimen samples according to required temperature. Place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, accurately label, and follow different procedures as outlined by specific protocols necessary for transport to maintain specimen integrity. Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations. Attend annual department trainings. Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
