The main function of a Phlebotomist I is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. You will be integral to our team, ensuring the accurate collection and processing of specimens.

ResponsibilitiesPerform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and decontaminate equipment.Update patient information and collect specimens according to established procedures.Explain the venipuncture and other specimen collection processes clearly and courteously to patients.Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.Fully understand all of the physicians' orders.Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by the test order.Ensure all test requisitions or computer labels are 100% correct against the script.Package specimens for transport and store them according to the required temperature.Place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, accurately label them, and follow specific procedures for transport.Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.Attend annual department trainings.Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.Essential SkillsValid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, as required in some states.Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.High School Diploma or GED.0-2 years of experience.Work Environment

The work environment includes a fast-paced lab or hospital setting. You will be working with various technologies and equipment, including straight needles and butterfly needles.
