Job Title: Phlebotomist I
Job Description

The main function of a Phlebotomist I is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.

ResponsibilitiesPerform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and decontaminate.Update patient information as required.Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.Clearly and courteously explain the process of venipuncture, blood drawing, or other specimen collection (e.g., urine or fecal) as required.Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.Fully understand all physicians' orders.Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by the test order.Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure accuracy.Package specimens for transport.Store specimen samples according to required temperature and place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes.Accurately label and follow different procedures as outlined by specific protocols to maintain the integrity of the specimen.Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.Attend annual department training sessions.Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.Essential SkillsValid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, if required.Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.High School Diploma or GED.0-2 years of experience in related field.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience in hospital or urgent care settings.Work Environment

The position entails working from 8am to 5pm, Monday through Friday, in a doctor's office setting. The role is to cover FMLA leave with potential for conversion or extension depending on the success of the contract. The work environment includes handling various technologies and equipment relevant to specimen collection and processing, with adherence to OSHA and DEP regulations. Dress code and attire will be appropriate for a medical office setting.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $19.00
