Phlebotomist I
Job Title: Phlebotomist I - Orange City, Fl Job Description The main function of a Phlebotomist I is to assist in performing various duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. This role involves collecting and storing specimens according to established procedures, explaining the process of venipuncture and other specimen collections, and ensuring compliance with laboratory requirements. Responsibilities + Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, and record maintenance data. + Decontaminate and update patient information. + Collect and store specimens according to established procedures. + Explain the venipuncture process clearly and courteously. + Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles. + Understand and follow all physicians' orders. + Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. + Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders. + Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure accuracy. + Package specimens for transport and store them at the required temperature. + Place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes and accurately label them. + Follow specific procedures for transport to maintain specimen integrity. + Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations. + Attend annual department trainings. + Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries. Essential Skills + Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment. + Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting. + Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. + High School Diploma or GED. + 0-2 years of experience. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Experience with pediatric and geriatric patients. + Knowledge of laboratory procedures and medical terminology. Work Environment The work environment involves working in a laboratory or hospital setting, utilizing various medical and laboratory equipment. Employees are required to follow safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized workspace. The position may require standing for extended periods and handling biological specimens. The dress code typically includes wearing personal protective equipment such as gloves and lab coats. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $19.00 Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
