Job Description
Summary: The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.
ResponsibilitiesPerform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and decontaminate.Update patient information and collect specimens according to established procedures.Explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collection procedures in a clear and courteous manner.Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.Understand and follow all physicians' orders.Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by the test order.Check all test requisitions or computer labels against the script to ensure accuracy.Package specimens for transport and store specimen samples according to the required temperature.Follow specific protocols to maintain the integrity of the specimens during transport.Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.Attend annual department training sessions.Answer telephone calls and provide laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.Essential SkillsProficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.High School Diploma or GED.6 months plus of experience in an outpatient or hospital setting, requiredPhlebotomyVenipunctureBlood drawSpecimen collectionSpecimen labelingCentrifugeGeriatricsPediatricsAdditional Skills & Qualifications1 year of experience highly preferred.Customer service experience.Patient care experience.Data entry skills.Experience with butterfly needles.Experience in a laboratory setting.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $19.00/hr.
