Job Title: Phlebotomist IIJob Description
The main function of a Phlebotomist II is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. The phlebotomist will be responsible for blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, decontamination, and updating patient information.
Responsibilities
+ Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
+ Properly explain the process of venipuncture, blood drawing, and/or other specimen collection in a clear but courteous manner.
+ Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
+ Fully understand all physicians' orders.
+ Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
+ Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
+ Check all test requisitions or computer labels against script to ensure accuracy.
+ Package specimens for transport.
+ Store specimen samples according to required temperature, place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, accurately label, and follow procedures to maintain the integrity of the specimen for transport.
+ Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
+ Attend annual department trainings.
+ Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
Essential Skills
+ Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state where you will be employed.
+ Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
+ High School Diploma or GED.
+ 2-4 years of experience.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Proficiency in the order of draw, blood draw, and venipuncture.
Work Environment
The work environment for this position involves a fast-paced lab or hospital setting. Employees will be handling various specimens and working with equipment such as centrifuges. Compliance with OSHA and DEP regulations is required, and annual department training is mandatory. The dress code typically involves wearing appropriate lab attire.
