Job Title: Phlebotomist II
Job Description

The main function of a Phlebotomist II is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. This role involves collecting and storing specimens according to established procedures, explaining the process of venipuncture and other specimen collections, and ensuring proper labeling and handling of specimens.

ResponsibilitiesPerform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and decontaminate equipment.Update patient information accurately.Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.Explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collections clearly and courteously.Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.Understand and follow all physicians' orders.Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.Package specimens for transport.Store specimen samples at required temperatures and place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes.Follow specific procedures necessary for transport to maintain the integrity of the specimen.Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.Attend annual department trainings.Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.Essential SkillsValid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment (as required in some states).Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.High School Diploma or GED.2-4 years of experience in phlebotomy.Additional Skills & QualificationsTwo or more years of outpatient draw experience.Reference lab experience is a plus.Work Environment

This position is based in an office/lab environment. The role involves working with various technologies and equipment required for specimen collection and processing. The dress code is professional attire suitable for a medical laboratory setting.
