Job Description
The Phlebotomist II will be responsible for performing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, decontamination, and updating patient information. The role involves collecting and storing specimens according to established procedures and ensuring accurate and courteous communication with patients regarding the venipuncture process and other specimen collections.
ResponsibilitiesCollect and store specimens according to established procedures.Properly explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collections to patients in a clear and courteous manner.Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.Fully understand all physicians' orders.Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.Package specimens for transport.Store specimen samples according to required temperature and place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes.Accurately label specimens and follow different procedures as outlined by specific protocols.Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.Essential SkillsPhlebotomyVenipunctureSpecimen collectionBlood drawCustomer service skills2+ years of experience (1+ year in a hospital setting)Minimum of 6 months experience in specimen processing, using butterfly needles, and performing phlebotomyPhlebotomy certificationData entry skillsExperience with pediatric and geriatric patientsAdditional Skills & Qualifications2-4 years of experienceValid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employmentMinimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital settingProficiency with Microsoft Office SuiteHigh School Diploma or GEDAbout Actalent
