Job Title: Phlebotomist
Job Description
The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. The position is essential in ensuring the proper collection, handling, and processing of specimens.
Responsibilities
+ Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and conduct decontamination.
+ Update patient information and collect/store specimens according to established procedures.
+ Explain the process of venipuncture, blood drawing, or other specimen collection clearly and courteously.
+ Demonstrate techniques using straight and butterfly needles.
+ Fully understand all physicians' orders and match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
+ Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
+ Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
+ Package specimens for transport and store them according to required temperatures.
+ Place samples in appropriate collection containers, label them accurately, and follow procedures for transport to maintain specimen integrity.
+ Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
+ Attend annual department trainings.
+ Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
Essential Skills
+ Minimum of 2 years of work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting required.
+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
+ High School Diploma or GED.
+ Experience with blood draws, venipuncture, sample collection, phlebotomy, specimen collection, specimen processing, laboratory procedures, data entry, centrifuging, and medical terminology.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Professionalism and customer service orientation.
+ Experience with pediatric and geriatric patients.
Work Environment
The candidate needs to be flexible to float between various patient service centers, including Rockville, Gaithersburg, and Germantown
The position requires working the 1st shift from Monday to Friday, 7 am to 4 pm.
The work environment is primarily in a doctor's office and patient service center, with the candidate expected to stand for 4-6 hours. The role involves working with a team and drawing patients across all age groups.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00/hr.
