MercyOne North Iowa is a clinical training site for approximately 500 students from 127 different colleges enrolled in programs for medical laboratory, nursing, paramedic, rehabilitation, medical assistants, pastoral services, physicians and many other medical fields.

Join the MercyOne Family! **We are looking to hire a Phlebotomist!**
As a **Phlebotomist** at MercyOne, you will with excellent customer service skills, the phlebotomist collects blood, and urine for testing in the laboratory. When needed, the phlebotomist also performs point-of-care laboratory tests.
+ Following established standard work practices and using established safety precautions, collects blood specimens utilizing the appropriate venipuncture, capillary fingerstick, heelstick or port draw techniques with patients of all age groups including neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults and geriatrics and assists nursing colleagues with line draws.
+ Can accurately collect and label blood culture specimens.
+ Collects chain-of-custody urines for drugs of abuse testing and blood for legal alcohol collections, performs rapid drug kit testing, routine therapeutic phlebotomies, point of care testing, breath testing, completes annual competencies, and administers appropriate glucose solution for gestational glucose and glucose tolerance testing.
+ Accurately identifies patients prior to collection of specimens using two patient identifiers, and then accurately labels the specimens in the presence of the patient as established by laboratory policy.
+ Maintains the inventory of supplies for all draw locations, trays and carts. Phlebotomy carts are stocked to established levels at the end of each shift.
+ Be able to consult with the technical colleagues whenever workload exceeds the capacity of the phlebotomy team, complications or difficulty arises in collection of a specimen from a patient.

**General Requirements:**
+ High school diploma/equivalent or higher, required.
+ Graduate of a Medical Assistant Program or medical training is preferred.
+ Completion of a Phlebotomy Technician Certification program is preferred.
+ Must have excellent customer service skills Ability to make sound, independent decisions.
+ Must provide proof of **Basic Life Support** (BLS Provider, American Heart Association; or American Red Cross, Professional Rescuer-LIVE class only) via current card prior to employment or within 60 days of hire and maintains current status.
+ Completes **Mandatory Reporting: Child and Dependent Adult Abuse** requirement within 6 months of hire and renews this requirement every 3 years.
