Job Description
The primary role of the Certified Phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. This position involves drawing blood, labeling and centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, decontamination, and updating patient information.
Responsibilities
+ Perform blood draws using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
+ Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
+ Clearly and courteously explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collection procedures to patients.
+ Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
+ Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
+ Ensure all test requisitions or computer labels are 100% accurate against the script.
+ Package specimens according to required temperature and protocol to maintain integrity during transport.
+ Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
+ Attend annual department trainings.
+ Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
Essential Skills
+ Proficiency in blood drawing, phlebotomy, and venipuncture.
+ Experience in specimen collection.
+ Minimum 2 years of experience as a Certified Phlebotomist required.
+ Customer service oriented.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Phlebotomy certification for the state of Maryland required.
+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
+ High School Diploma or GED.
+ 2-4 years of experience.
Work Environment
The work schedule is from 7 am to 4 pm, Monday through Friday. This position is based in a Patient Service Center.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $24.00
