Under the direction of the Director of Laboratory Services, performs a wide variety of secretarial, clerical, and phlebotomy duties utilizing a computer and other office equipment as necessary and needles, syringes, vacutainers, tubes, and micro devices. Maintains outpatient orders in an orderly manner making sure that we have accurate orders and diagnosis; may have to travel to nursing homes and physician offices to obtain specimens; and enters accurate billing and personal information into the computer system. Will have to perform electrocardiograms (EKGs) testing on Outpatients and PreAdmission Testing (PAT) patients after proper training.
Primary (Essential) Duties\:
Performs phlebotomy procedures via venipuncture, heel, and finger sticks.Performs patient registration in the hospital information system (HIS) for outreach specimens.Performs a quick registration for specimens/patients and inputs case histories in the Laboratory Information System (LIS).Collates and distributes patient reports to appropriate physician, unit, or agency.Acts as the communication center for Pathology by answering phone, taking messages, distributing mail, and performing other related tasks.Performs electrocardiogram (EKG) testing as needed on all Outpatient and Pre-Admission Testing (PAT) patients.Performs job responsibilities in a manner consistent with the customer service goals and objectives of the department and hospital.Maintains regulatory requirements, including all state, federal, and The Joint Commission (TJC) regulations related to the Laboratory Department and facility.Attends all mandatory meetings and is familiar with Laboratory Compliance and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations.Scion Health considers a consistently positive, cooperative, self-motivated, courteous, and professional attitude to be an essential function of every position.
