Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations._ **Responsibilities:** GENERAL PURPOSE: Completes a 12 week on-the-job training program in phlebotomy and outpatient access administrative duties, including receiving classroom instruction, laboratory observation, and hands-on training in patient settings. Topics include, but are not limited to, customer service, reception, patient registration, human anatomy and physiology, and blood collection protocols and techniques. Performs functions associated with patient information processing for laboratory visits. **ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS** + Successfully completes 80 hours of phlebotomy training, including 100 successful venipunctures. Completes 20 additional hours of training in client services and specimen management to meet certification requirements. + Upon completion of the associated Mandatory New Hire Trainings, completes duties as a trainee of phlebotomy. Confirms orders prior to collection per protocol. Labels samples in front of the patient per protocol. Performs safe venipuncture, following all age-specific, infection control, and safety protocols. Greets patients to initiate positive laboratory experience, requests patient identification, assures use of two identifiers to verify the correct patient. Protects Personal Health Information (PHI) for patients as indicated by HIPAA regulations. Ensures cleanliness and order in the waiting room/lobby. Collects patient demographic and insurance information in an efficient, customer-oriented manner. Accurately verifies patient demographics. + Completes phlebotomy new hire employee mandatory trainings in LMS. Completes additional trainings, including eRecord training, lab information system registration and login, specimen receiving, client services, and receiving and registering new patients in the Patient Service Centers. + Completes 50 hours of lecture on the Essentials of Phlebotomy with a passing grade as scheduled. Consistently demonstrates good classroom participation and adheres to the attendance policy. + Interacts with patients and colleagues in a timely and professional manner. Assesses the urgency of unexpected situations and responds appropriately to escalate or solve as appropriate. Serves as a resource for handling complaints and utilizes service recovery concepts.
