Job Summary:
Under direct supervision, the Phlebotomy Intern participates in a 30–60-day rotation in all phlebotomy areas including inpatient and outpatient testing areas. Collects and processes patient specimens for testing in adherence with laboratory protocols. Performs laboratory tests including pre- and post-analytic phases. Prepares samples/specimens for producing accurate and reliable results by following collection procedure. This role interacts consistently with the department manager, supervisor, lead phlebotomist, and staff.
Position Responsibilities
Participates in clinical rotation, training and competency assessments in inpatient and outpatient testing areas to include patient identification, phlebotomy, post phlebotomy care, specimen labeling, specimen verification, processing, shipment and front loading on instruments for testing.
Once fully trained, identifies the laboratory departments and the testing performed in these disciplines. Performs pre-analytical processes including registration and ordering.
Provides outstanding customer service by demonstrating effective and appropriate communication and interpersonal skills.
Performs clerical functions including but not limited to telephone communication, report generation and faxing.
Position Qualifications Required:
Required Experience: Previous customer service experience with demonstrated ability to perform detailed clerical work. Good interpersonal and time management skills
Required Education: High school diploma/or a potential Graduate with a letter documenting their June graduation or equivalent. Health Science Program Student Matriculation (Affiliation)
