Coordinates staffing for Specimen Control areas, namely inpatient, outpatient and outreach facility phlebotomy and registration. Leads and triages inpatient and traveling phlebotomy services. Troubleshoots lab-related needs from inpatient caregivers and staff at outpatient health parks. Ensures all inpatient and outpatient specimens are accounted for and processed appropriately. Reviews multiple reports for quality. Coaches staff to adhere to departmental metrics and work standards.
QUALIFICATIONSEducation
Minimum: High school diploma, or equivalent.
Preferred: Phlebotomy Training or Phlebotomy Technical School.
Credentials/Licensure
Minimum: ASCP certification for Phlebotomy (or other accrediting agency) to be obtained within 3 months of hire.
Related Experience
Minimum: Six months of phlebotomy experience.
Preferred: Previous experience in a leadership role.

Performs triage to sort inpatient phlebotomy blood draw patients, ensuring that Routine, Timed, Stat and ASAP draws are collected in a timely manner.Assigns lab staff roles, troubleshoots, and handles atypical situations offline to facilitate a smooth and timely specimen collection process.Serves as a resource to colleagues on questions and concerns relating to testing and functions.Responds to inquiries related to lab services.Prepares, packages and appropriately routes specimens for testing, observing biohazard regulations.Monitors test result turnaround times to ensure timely delivery to physicians.Manually reports non-automated lab results.Manually charges patient accounts for non-automated tests.Runs daily reports to track and account for specimens.Communicates with other shifts regarding passing of work; conducts daily staff huddles and quality control checks.Monitors and shifts staff to maximize resources and cover staff shortages.Observes and audits staff to ensure adherence to work standards; provides coaching as needed.Tracks and documents performance metrics for leadership review.Maintains communication with test labs to troubleshoot issues and minimize delays.Attends regular department leadership meetings.Acts as a professional role model to staff.Continuously seeks ways to improve lab processes and reduce waste.Performs other related duties as assigned.Our Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion
