Phlebotomy Registration Specialist
Position Purpose:
The Collection/Registration Specialist ensures accurate registration and ordering of patients presenting to the collections site. All information required for the completion of both test ordering and patient registration is collected. Places patient orders; collects and labels specimens utilizing positive patient identification. Processes and prepares specimens for transport as needed. Produces reports for faxing or delivery as needed and communicates appropriate information to the healthcare team. Registers patients in the appropriate systems.
What you'll do:
Greet all patients in a friendly and gracious manner, creating a warm and friendly atmosphere.Obtains all patient information in a private and confidential manner.Performs LIS orders and HQ registrations per policy and procedure. Maintains all required documentation.Places patient orders accurately.Identifies each patient accurately by verifying date of birth, spelling of last and first name.Collects specimens utilizing professional and accepted practicesLabels all specimens accurately.Transports specimens in a timely manner.Processes specimens per policy and procedure.Review computer reports, resolves any problems and makes appropriate corrections.Answers telephone promptly and handles all calls with courtesy and efficiency. Provides appropriate results and delivers accurate messages regarding specimen collection and processing.Minimum Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or equivalentLicensure / Certification: Phlebotomy certification preferredExperience: Phlebotomy and basic computer skills required; Registration experience helpful.Effective Communication SkillsWorking knowledge of medical terminology is desirable.Able to pass a typing testDetail oriented, able to work with minimal supervisionfree to include any specific information about the unit/position/schedule that you would be helpful for our applicants to know. Example:The position supports the Trinity Health Ann Arbor Emergency Department (ED), a 61 bed Level 1 Trauma ER that provides comprehensive emergency care to patients of all ages treating approximately 85,000 patients annually.
