PHLEBOTOMY TECHNICIAN

SITE OF SERVICE:

·       Fort Bliss, El Paso, TX.

POSITION QUALIFICATION/REQUIREMENTS:

·       Degree: Certificate & GED/High School Diploma

·       Education:

o  Possess a high school diploma or equivalent General Educational Development (GED) certificate.

o  Have successfully completed a full-time training course of at least nine months duration, which included instruction in phlebotomy, blood-banking, and serology. 

·       Additional Certificate: BLS certification through American Heart Association: must be hands on course.

·       Experience: Possess a minimum of one year of experience within the last two years working as a full-time Phlebotomist in a hospital, blood-bank, pathology, or laboratory environment.

·       U.S. Citizenship: HCWs performing under this contract shall be U.S. citizens.

·       English Language Requirement: The Contractor shall ensure that all HCWs providing services under this contract are able to read, write, and speak English well enough to effectively communicate.

·       Physical Capability: HCWs shall be physically capable of standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time and physically capable of performing all services required.

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

Phlebotomists shall perform the following functions, within the scope of accepted Phlebotomist practices. These shall be essentially the same duties as those required of any Medical Corps personnel or Government civil service provider of similar experience and in similar duty assignments. Other duties shall consist of, but are not limited to, the following:

·       Adhere to the quality of performance encompassed in the standards of the American Association of Blood Banks and the Federal Food and Drug Administration.

·       Perform a variety of standardized procedures to include phlebotomy, measuring vital signs and hemoglobin levels, and performing quality control of equipment utilized. This is performed under normal technical supervision.

·       Perform quality control check on equipment and reagents.

·       Organize blood collection stations to assure adequate quantities and varieties of sets, needles, lancets, tubes, alcohol, gauze, bandages, and other necessary supplies are available.

·       Perform phlebotomy technique in a manner that is safe and free of unnecessary or excessive trauma to service members.

·       Assist service members after unit collection to stop bleeding, and recognize or initiate appropriate measures in an emergency situation (service member reaction).

·       Operate a computer workstation to enter or retrieve information for donor registration and phlebotomy. Maintain legible and accurate records for all procedures requiring documentation to include vital signs, hemoglobin determination, phlebotomy, and quality control.

·       Collect and dispose of biohazard materials.

 

HOURS:

·       Services shall be provided between the hours of 0600 and 1600 Monday through Friday for an 8 period.  

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS

Must be comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Must be able and willing to reprioritize on short notice and work on multiple simultaneous projects. Flexible and able to work with various personalities. Team work skills required. Time management skills required. The ability to meet deadlines in a deadline intensive environment is essential. High level of adaptability and willingness to embrace change in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
