Phoenix - Open Pit Drill & Blast Engineer

Position Description:

Our people division is growing, and we are looking for a Sr. Drill & Blast Engineer at our Phoenix operation.  The successful candidate will be responsible for all the technical aspects of drill and blast engineering at the open pit at the Phoenix mine.

Responsibilities:

Blast pattern design guidance (burden, spacing, hole diameter, depth, sub-drill, explosives type, etc.) Blast pattern design creation Shot timing recommendation Fragmentation analysis Presplitting analysis Minimizing dilution Leading cost saving initiatives Maintaining the drill model (forecast and execution levels) Interacting with operations at the blasting line out meetings and in the field Aiding in the weekly blast shot sequencing meetings Wall/vibration control Maintain and explain variances to the drilling and blasting budgets for the operations group on a weekly and monthly basis Other projects associated with a progressive mining environment that are assigned on an as needed basis Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Mining, Engineering or related field required Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in open pit mining engineering preferred Ability to develop and maintain professional working relationships with other divisions to optimize the plans of current and future mining activities required Excellent safety record with the ability to demonstrate safety leadership required Ability to get BATF clearance to handle explosives required Experience using Shot Plus, Whitesis, Alpha-Blast, Signa-Shot and seismographs preferred Experience using Vulcan, Deswik, Whittle, AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite preferred Team leader, problem solver and excellent oral and written communication skills required Ability to work outside in varied weather conditions for extended periods of time required Ability to cross-train with the mining engineering group required Ability to perform the essential functions of this job required
