**Description** SAIC is seeking a talented and innovative **Photonics Engineer** to join our dynamic team in **Bedford, IN** . In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and testing photonics-based devices and systems for a variety of applications. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in optics, lasers, and photonics, along with a passion for pushing the limits of optical technology. **This position is contingent upon contract award in Early 2025.** **This position is full time and can be worked remotely or on site in Bedford, IN.** **Relocation assistance will be considered on a case by case basis.** **Key Responsibilities:** + Design and simulate photonics devices and systems using software tools such as MATLAB, Lumerical, or COMSOL + Develop optical components and subsystems, including lasers, modulators, detectors, and optical amplifiers + Characterize and test optical devices and systems in laboratory environments + Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate photonics solutions into larger systems or products + Stay current with industry trends and advancements in photonics technology + Contribute to research and development projects aimed at pushing the boundaries of optical technology **Qualifications** **Qualifications:** + Seven (7) years of experience & Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Optics or related field + Or PhD in the above and four (4) years of related experience + Strong background in optics, lasers, and photonics + Proficiency in optical design software tools such as Zemax, OpticStudio, or equivalent + Experience with optical modeling, simulation, and characterization + Hands-on experience with optical test and measurement equipment + Knowledge of semiconductor device physics and fabrication techniques is a plus + Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills + Strong communication and teamwork abilities **Clearance:** + Must be a US Citizen and willing to obtain a Secret security clearance SAIC accepts applications on an ongoing basis and there is no deadline.
