Job Summary

 

Responsibilities

1. The Physiatrist serves as an attending physician to patients admitted to the Medical Rehabilitation Center and the Outpatient Clinics. He/she performs consultations with patients at all CAMC divisions as necessary, and at other area hospitals as deemed appropriate. He/she provides particular emphasis to the development of comprehensive outpatient services. 2. The incumbent works with the Medical Director to develop treatment protocols and programs for specific populations of patients. He/she serves on and chairs comittees to facilitate the operation of the medical Rehabilitation Center and CAMC as necessary. He/she may assist the Medical Director with the performance of administrative duties as necessary. 3. The incumbent participates in educational activities to inform Medical Rehabilitation Center staff as well as area physicians, allied health personnel, and the public about rehabilitation medicine in general or the activities/programs available at the Medical Rehabilitation Center. He/she assists in the development and formulation of research projects related to rehabilitation medicine. 4. The incumbent must keep up to date with current trends and developments in medical rehabilitation. He/she promtoes collegial relationships within the department and must possess good human relation skills. Special Accountabilitites 1. Render medical care to patients for whom he/she serves as attending physician. 2. Assist with developing and planning for medical rehabilitation programs within the hospital and outpatient areas, using his/her best efforts to maintain the maximum standards established under CARF. 3. Assist with the implementation of quality assurance programs in an attempt to resolve identified problems in patient care. 4. Provide consultation in physical medicine rehabilitation to all divisions of CAMC and to the regional hospitals as needed. 5. Maintain current knowledge of rehabilitation services and medical practices in rehabilitation. 6. Plan and conduct conferences, meetings, and in-service trainings for Rehabilitation Center staff and for other areas of CAMC, as appropriate. 7. Market the Medical Rehabilitation Center to other area physicians, health care providers, and the community. 9. Use of his/her best efforts to promote and advance the development of the Rehabilitation Center to achieve maximum capacity in all areas. 10. Provide leadership in the development of comprehensive outpatient rehabilitation services. 11. Participate in Performance Improvement activities designed to improve quality and efficiency. 12. Participate in those activities required for DNV and CARF. 13. Devote such time as necessary, but not less than 40 hours per week on average, plus a proportionate share of call time, to the fulfillment of responsibilities under this agreement. Scope of the job description and/or compensation may be reviewed at any time at the initiative of physician or the vice president for General Hospital. 14. Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Patient Group Knowledge (Only applies to positions with direct patient contact) The employee must possess/obtain (by the end of the orientation period) and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment or care as defined by the department’s identified patient ages. Specifically the employee must be able to demonstrate competency in: 1) ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs; 2) knowledge of growth and development; and 3) understanding of the range of treatment needed by the patients. Competency Statement Must demonstrate competency through an initial orientation and ongoing competency validation to independently perform tasks and additional duties as specified in the job description and the unit/department specific competency checklist. Education 

• Medical Degree (Required) Education: MD or DO Board Certified/Board Eligible in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Experience: No requirement beyond residency.
