Physical Therapist - Outpatient Orthopaedics

As a Physical Therapist in Hillcrest Hospital’s Orthopaedic Department, you will create a healing atmosphere that enhances the patient and family experience. You will assist in providing highly specialized treatment for bones, joints, muscles and tendons. Our patients are dealing with pain, so remaining sensitive and compassionate is important in helping them regain their health. 

A caregiver in this position works rotating days / evenings from 7:00AM – 7:00PM. 

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

Perform initial and on-going assessments of patient's condition. Establish, revise and evaluate a plan of care which is appropriate to problems identified and involves the patient / family according to their capabilities and desires. Perform therapy interventions utilizing standard physical therapy techniques and skills as appropriate for the age and condition of the patient. Supervise activities of physical therapy assistants, students and other support personnel. Use critical thinking skills and decisive judgment to work with minimal supervision. 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

Bachelor’s degree or certificate Graduate of a Physical Therapy program accredited by the American Physical Therapy Association  Current state licensure as a Physical Therapist (PT)   Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification  

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

Experience in outpatient orthopedics preferred.a

Walk and climb stairs without assistive device and maintain balance despite sudden load in order to support patient from fallingAbility to meet physical demands characterized at the heavy level defined by 1993 Leonard Matheson and Ministry of LaborSufficiently lift and reach with arms to lift patient's arm and leg during therapeutic treatment programSensation of touch and manual dexterity to palpate muscle tension or to monitor patient pulseVisual acuity to observe patient's gross and fine motor movements in order to analyze these movements and to read all patient monitorsSpeak clearly enough to instruct patients and familiesHear at a conversational level to understand patient's description of symptoms and response to treatment
