Physical Therapist PD

SUMMARY:
The Physical Therapist reports directly to the Clinical Manager and/ or Assistant Clinical Manager (ACM) of their respective department and may receive clinical guidance from senior staff and/or clinical specialists. The Physical Therapist completes comprehensive examinations of body structure to determine functional impairments activity limitations and participation restrictions. The Physical Therapist establishes diagnosis and prognosis; develops an individualized plan of care; implements treatment interventions; and performs on-going evaluations throughout episode of care.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

CommunicationDemonstrates the highest level of communication and professionalism with patients caregivers rehabilitation staff providers and other health care professionals both within the academic medical center and in the community.Exhibits effective and professional verbal and non-verbal communicationCommunicates clearly respectfully and honestly with patients and/or caregivers and colleaguesCommunicates proactively with other caregivers involved in patients careAdjusts communication and response to the level of understanding of the listenerExamines and evaluates patientsEstablishes diagnosis prognosis and individualized plans of careImplements treatment intervention based on plan of care considering precautions indications and contradictionsDirects and coordinates patients rehabilitation plan of careEvaluates patients progress and revises goals and plan of care accordinglyEducates/ Trains patients/caregiversAnticipates and communicates discharge/home needs and resourcesCompletes documentation and charges accurately and timely in compliance with department policyCompletes clinical documentation reflecting eligibility/ medical necessity of services in compliance with professional and regulatory standardsMakes recommendations and referrals for additional diagnostic testing and/or servicesConsistently applies evidence-based practice to all aspects of clinical careSeeks additional guidance when necessary to assure safe and effective patientcareComplies with hospital and departmental policies and guidelinesParticipates in strategic departmental quality improvement initiativesProvides education to other hospital departments/personnel students and outside agencies/schoolsDemonstrates ability to flex schedule based on department patient and/or caregiver needDetermines priorities according to departmental and patient care needParticipates in community based professional eventsParticipates in ongoing educational activitiesSupports and promotes departmental teamworkCompletes mandatory departmental and hospital training


QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelors degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited institution is required.Master or Doctorate level degree in Physical Therapy is preferred.State license issued by the Rhode Island Department of Health is required.New graduates will be considered. Clinical experience in program specific settings is preferred.


INDEPENDENT ACTION:

Performs independently within the departments policies and practicesRefers specific complex problems to ACM and/or Clinical Manager when clarification of departmental policies and procedures is requiredIndependently sets goals for professional developmentMembership and involvement in discipline specific professional organization and/or other clinically relevant organization is strongly encouraged


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

No direct supervision. However pursuant to the state of Rhode Island Rules and Regulations for Licensing Physical Therapists a licensed physical therapist shall at all times be responsible for the supervision of physical therapist assistants supportive personnel and students to ensure the safety and welfare of patients Provides consistent and thorough supervision of assistants aides therapists and volunteers including cosigning notes reviewing patient treatment plans and goals.
