The NeuroRecovery Research Center at TIRR Memorial Hermann Hospital is seeking a highly motivated therapist to contribute to ongoing projects. The research center is part of Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) at the University of Texas – Medical School at Houston. The research center is housed in TIRR Memorial Hermann Hospital that allows easy and convenient access to patient populations, including stroke, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, amputation and pain. Position Summary:

The ideal candidate may possess a professional degree in Physical Therapy (PT, DPT). Clinical experience working with patients with neurological impairments, such as those who have experienced a stroke, is preferred. While research experience is preferred, it is not required.

The role may conduct comprehensive assessments and evaluations of patients' physical and functional abilities and to deliver therapy to stroke patients in accordance with research protocols. Additional responsibilities may include:

·       Preparing and maintaining Institutional Review Board (IRB) applications.

·       Recruiting and scheduling study subjects.

·       Keeping detailed and accurate records.

·       Participating in data analysis and discussions.

·       Preparing manuscripts and presenting research findings.

This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the advancement of rehabilitation therapies for individuals with neurological impairments.

Provides professional, educational, and clinical skills in organizing and directing physical therapy services and administering treatment programs.

Position Key Accountabilities:

Coordinates all physical therapy and related orthopedic care to ensure appropriate patient treatment.  
2.  Conducts patient consultation, evaluation, and program planning for all patients.
3.  Develops home exercise programs to instruct patients in the required exercise for treatment.
4.  Reassesses patient status on an ongoing basis to ensure that treatment goals, plans, and program are appropriate.
5.  Communicates effectively with patient/family to ensure knowledge of treatment plan and home exercises.
6.  Develops educational programs to increase patient/family and community awareness of physical therapy treatment.
7.  Assists in continuing education and orientation or new employees to increase awareness of physical therapy treatments.
8.  Other duties as assigned.

Certification/Skills:

Certified by American Physical Therapy Association and Licensed by the Texas State Board of Physical Therapy Examiners.

Minimum Education:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school of Physical Therapy and four years of experience; OR
Master’s degree in Physical Therapy and two years of experience; OR
Doctoral degree in Physical Therapy and no experience

Minimum Experience:

Years of experience varies based on education level.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds frequently and/or up to 20 pounds constantly to move objects.
