Provides responsible professional services to residents under their care.Performs physical examinations on all residents, orders appropriate diagnostic tests, reviews resident records, analyzes reports and findings of tests and examinations, and recommends appropriate treatment.Evaluates residents’ conditions and determines progress of treatment and advises on changes.Informs allied clinical personnel in methods and techniques of resident care and treatment.Exchanges information relative to proper medical care and treatments by consulting with physicians, nurses, and other clinical professionals.Performs related functions, such as, preparing written reports on residents and informing responsible parties of the progress of residents’ care.Reviews medical literature to keep informed.May attend meetings of professional societies and address community organizations, may prepare scientific papers for presentation or publication.REQUIREMENTS
Licensed to practice in Massachusetts with the Board of Registration in Medicine.Prescriptive authority with DEA and Mass Controlled Drug Prescriptive Authority.SCHEDULE
This is a full-time (40 hours/week) position working Monday through Friday with exact daytime hours to be determined before time of hire by the Medical Director.Evening and Weekend on-call responsibilities on a rotating basis with other members of the Medical Staff.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
At least three (3) years of experience in a long-term care environment.Proficient understanding of the principles and practices of geriatric nursing, dementia, hospice, and modern long-term care.Capacity to maintain accurate records and exercise discretion in handling confidential information.Demonstrated success in the development and implementation of quality care, health, and safety approach.About the Veterans Home at Chelsea:
The Veterans Home at Chelsea is a healthcare complex that provides quality care and residential accommodations for veterans.
The Veterans Home addresses the needs and provides support to approximately 350 veterans 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Medical, nursing and clinical supports are given to those residents residing in the Long Term Care Facility.
The residential units support veterans who are living independently but receive services and programs ranging from psychosocial and social work, receive transitional assistance, education, work and outreach programs.
The resident population is generally categorized into the following categories: Alzheimer, Long Term Care and Domiciliary.
The Veterans Care Physician provides general medical care to the veteran residents of the Veterans Home at Chelsea who are housed in either the Long-Term Care Facility or the Dormitory.
