Physician Assistant

Summary:
Reports directly to sponsoring Cardiologist for clinical activities with an administrative reporting relationship to the Director Administrative Operations. Performs a variety of duties to encompass but not limited to the care and management of electrophysiology patients especially those with devices in accordance with the Lifespan and The Miriam Hospital�s mission vision values with consideration of the lifespan including all developmental stages as well as cultural patterns. All essential functions performed in this position reflect the age-specific needs of the patients.

 

Responsibilities:
Obtains and records medical histories; performs and records physical examinations when needed; records pertinent device evaluation progress notes in the office medical records; sends letters to referring physicians; and initiates life saving measures in emergency situations until aid arrives.



Assesses patient status and participates in the development of a patient care management plan with the attending physician. Provides educational and liaison supports to health care team members.



Participates in the care of electrophysiology outpatient ambulatory patients by providing consults and re-evaluations in addition to urgent outpatient evaluations.



Directs and coordinates a Device Follow-up clinic. Responsible for routine and problematic device evaluations with reprogramming as needed for evaluating and treating arrhythmias and for evaluating and treating symptomatic patients both urgent and non-urgent. Prepares patients for upcoming device upgrades and generator changes including extractions and revisions along with post surgical follow-up of these patients.



Participates in the education of patients families and caregivers regarding any procedures post-procedural care and expected outcomes and progress.



May perform other duties as requested by the attending physician within the Physician Assistant scope of practice.



Maintains established office policies and procedures which address quality assurance safety and environmental and infection control.

BASIC KNOWLEDGE:

Graduate of a Physician Assistant Program with B.S. Degree or its equivalent.



Certified or certification eligible by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants.



Certified in American Heart Association Basic Life Support/Advanced Cardiac Life Support.



EXPERIENCE:

One to two years� experience in a clinical cardiology practice with experience in electrophysiology.



Must have patient care services procedures and privileges approved by the sponsoring physician.



WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Healthcare environment such as acute care hospitals physicians� offices and ancillary healthcare enterprises.



Works with medical equipment and has direct patient contact.



Any potential hazards are minimized by adherence to established safety procedures and precautions including the use of safety equipment and protective clothing.

None.
