This is an exciting opportunity for a Physician Assistant to work in the operating room at the Mullica Hill & Vineland Hospital.
The PA will work closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and other OR staff to ensure high-quality patient care throughout the perioperative process.
The primary role will include providing first assist for surgeons performing robotic, general, vascular, urology, oncology, orthopedic and reconstructive procedures.
The ideal candidate will possess excellent surgical skills, a strong understanding of sterile techniques, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
This position will be three 12-hour shifts per week without call, weekend, or holiday coverage.
1-3 years of experience in an operating room or surgical setting preferred.
Operating Room experience is a plus New Graduates will be considered
Position Responsibilities
Includes but is not limited to:
• Assist the surgeon during operative procedures, including suturing, retraction, and tissue handling.
• Perform first assist duties, including closing incisions and applying dressings.
• Facilitate patient preparation for surgery, including positioning and ensuring proper sterile technique.
• Monitor patients intraoperatively, providing technical assistance and responding to any changes in patient status.
• Assist with postoperative care in the recovery room or ICU, including patient assessment, wound management, and writing orders as directed by the surgeon.
• Ensure surgical instruments and supplies are prepared and properly handled during procedures.
• Collaborate with the surgical team to enhance patient outcomes and maintain a safe environment.
• Educate patients and families on postoperative care instructions and follow-up schedules.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to the development of OR protocols and procedures.
Qualifications
• Master’s degree in physician assistant studies from an accredited program.
• Board Certified Physician Assistant from Certifying Exam (PANCE) administered by the National Commission on Certifying of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
• Current PA licensure in the state of NJ
• NCCPA certification required
• BLS & ACLS certification
• CDS and DEA License
• Strong knowledge of sterile techniques, surgical instruments, and procedures.
• Perform first assist duties, including closing incisions and applying dressings
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to remain calm and focused in high-stress, fast-paced situations.
• Ability to stand for extended periods during surgeries.
• Manual dexterity to assist with surgical procedures.
