POSITION STANDARDS Unrestricted NH and VT Physician's Assistant License Current DEA license Required Current BCLS certification required within 30 days of hire. Demonstrated Competence in providing supervised neurosurgical care as delineated on Clinical Privilege list. Position Objective Supports assigned neurosurgery physician in provision of comprehensive, general neurosurgery care

 

Performance Expectation Evaluate all assigned neurosurgery patients presenting to the APD Neurosurgery Clinic. Obtain an appropriate history and physical exam. Order and provide preliminary interpretation of diagnostic laboratory and imaging studies. Within scope of service, provide appropriate treatment to all assigned neurosurgery patients. Obtain consultation as clinically indicated and appropriate. When indicated, transfer care of complex patients to MD practitioner. Document the history, physical exam, and laboratory and imaging studies as well as treatment in the medical record. Obtain appropriate informed consent for all procedures as described in APD Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations and Policies. Provide consulting practitioners and supervising physicians with complete and accurate medical records. Communicate in a timely and collegial manner. Review previously ordered laboratory and imaging studies and determine appropriate preliminary course of treatment for patient based on results. Communicate results and proposed plan to supervising physician and patients in a timely manner. When requested, assist with surgical procedures. Provide care to hospitalized neurosurgery patients as directed by supervising physician. Participate fully in physician supervisory chart reviews. In conjunction with other covering neurosurgery providers, assist APD hospital with the provision of continuous call coverage for established neurosurgery practice patients. Communicate with “back – up” on call supervisor as indicated. Document all “after-hours” communication with patients. Treat all patients and staff with respect. Participate in staff education and clinical Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement activities. Attend clinic staff meetings when requested to do so by the supervising neurosurgery MD or Practice Manager. Abide by CMS Conditions of Participation for Hospitals. Abide by the APD Medical Staff bylaws, Rules and Regulations and policies. Abide by all APD policies Other duties assigned
