Physician Assistant (Orthopedics) (GS-0603-12) - Fort Sill, OK

 

Fort Sill is a United States post north of Lawton, Oklahoma, about 85 miles (136.8 km) southwest of Oklahoma City and 50 miles north of Wichita Falls, Texas on Interstate 44.  It covers almost 94,000 acres.

The fort was first built during the Indian Wars.  It is designated as a National Historical landmark and serves as home of the United States Army Field Artillery School as well as the Marine Corps' site for Field Artillery MOS school, United States Army Air Defense Artillery School, the 31st Air Defense Artillery Brigade, and the 75th Field Artillery Brigade.  Fort Sill is also one of the four locations for Army Basic Combat Training. It has played a significant role in every major American conflict since 1869.

Responsibilities Provide diagnostic and therapeutic medical care and services.Assess patients referred to the MSS by reviewing medical records, interpreting radiographs and performing the appropriate musculoskeletal evaluation.Recognize routine and emergent conditions inherent to the specialty of orthopedic surgery.Order routine laboratory tests, imaging studies (to include X-rays, MRIs, bone scans, CT scans) and is able to interpret results.Prescribe medication approved by the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.Assist orthopedic surgeon in the Operating Room with minor surgical procedures.Evaluate soldiers for retention.Work independently and communicate closely with Orthopedic MD via phone, email or other forms of electronic communication.

Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross. Basic Requirements for GS-12 Physician Assistant (Orthopedics):

Education: Graduation from a physician assistant educational program, accredited by the Accreditation Review Committee on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or its predecessors, at a college, university, or educational institution that is accredited by an accrediting body or organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

Certification: Successful completion of the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) examination; must maintain status as a certified physician assistant, including completion of all requirements for Continuing Medical Education (CME) and re-certification.

Licensure: Applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician Assistant from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

Exemption: You are exempt from the license requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0603 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status.

In addition to meeting the basic requirements above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Experience: A minimum of one full year of work experience as a certified physician assistant equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service.

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
