Job Overview:

The nurse practitioner functions as an independent care provider in collaboration with the Neurosurgery Department. Their advance practice is characterized by comprehensive health assessments and management of patients with acute and/or chronic health problems. Educate patients and/or families regarding disease process, medical intervention, health promotion and pain management. Document patient teaching. . Performs clinical procedures (in addition to RN functions). The Nurse Practitioner serves as a resource for nursing and ancillary staff in regards to patient, disease management and pain management. The Nurse Practitioner will act as a clinical resource to the nursing staff. Facilitate practices that are in compliance with Core Measures and The Joint Commission requirements. The Nurse Practitioner will assist the Medical Center in enhancing our patients experience and will lead house-wide Performance Improvement evaluation activities through implementation of evidence-based practice. The Nurse Practitioner will participate on the research committee and publish. The Nurse Practitioner will assist with The Joint Commission preparedness and other tasks to improve patient satisfaction and the quality of care delivered. The Nurse Practitioner will be credentialed through the SBMC Medical Staff and with third party payers for fee for service reimbursement

Job Requirements:

Masters prepared in Nursing from an accredited programAdvanced Practice Nurse License via the New Jersey State Board of NursingMaintain National Certification AANP or ANCCLicensed Registered Nurse in the state of New JerseyCDS and DEA licenseBLS and ACLS.

Essential Functions:

Care for neurosurgical patients in the ICU including management of fluid balances, management of EVDs, etc.Discharge planning, orders, and prescriptions.Order and interpret laboratory and diagnostic testCare for patient after surgery including pain control, drain removal, suture and staple removal, etc.Prepare patients for surgery including scheduling, images needed, consent, clearances, preop orders, etc.Assist with surgery and procedure on the floors as needed.Round with attendings and carry out changes to plan of care.Answer the call phone when residents are not available.Assist with administrative needs of the residency.Educate and support the nurses as needed.Daily patient rounds and progress reports.
