Founded in 1942, this 340-sq.-mile military base is the Army's Premier Installation to train and deploy heavy forces. A 214,968 acre installation, Fort Cavazos is now the largest active duty armored post in the U.S. Armed Forces and the only post in the United States capable of stationing and training two Armored Divisions. For more information, please visit the following link: https://www.usajobs.gov/Help/working-in-government/benefits/ **Responsibilities** + Serve as sub-specialist and consultant in Neonatal Perinatal Medicine for Pediatrics. + Evaluate and treats critically ill neonates. + Order lab tests and x-rays necessary to complete diagnosis and correlate results with clinical findings. + Provide appropriate resuscitative measures in the delivery room (e.g., preterm infants, emergency C-sections, complicated deliveries, etc.) and determine disposition to NICU or Newborn Nursery. + Provide continuing education to medical professionals in the area of neonatal-perinatal medicine. + Provide oversight of GME trainees and nurse practitioners to ensure quality, timely and appropriate medical care. PERFORMS OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED. **Conditions of Employment** + Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. + A Personnel Security Investigation is required. + This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis. + Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption. + This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing. + A pre-placement medical examination is required. + Moderate to heavy lifting up to 50 pounds may be required. + Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS. + Must be able to obtain and maintain certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). + Must be able to obtain and maintain certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). + Must be able to obtain and maintain certification in Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP). + Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges. + This position may require the incumbent to work weekends and/or holidays. + This position may require the incumbent to work on call during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules. + This position may include shift work (evenings, weekends, holidays) **Qualifications** **US Citizenship required** **Basic Requirement for Physician (Critical Care):** **Degree:** Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges; Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must have provided education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination. **Licensure:** Applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States **Graduate Training:** Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, a candidate must have had at least one year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a one-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: **Residency Training:** Applicants must have successfully completed the required accredited residency training in the specialty of the position to be filled (Pediatrics or Neonatal Intensive Care) equal to at least 4 years. **Education:** **FOREIGN EDUCATION:** If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
