Physician Executive - Cancer Center Service Line

Tufts Medicine and Tufts University School of Medicine, in Boston, Massachusetts, are seeking a system-wide Cancer Service Line Physician Executive. This position reports directly to the Dean/Chief Academic Officer, President of the Physician Organization, and the Chief Operating Officer of Tufts Medicine Health System.    

The Cancer Service Line Physician Executive will function as the leader of the comprehensive cancer programs, projects, and activities across Tufts Medicine, including research and education.  In this role, they will coordinate and collaborate with the leaders of the related services, including medical oncology, surgical oncology, radiation oncology, gynecologic oncology, pathology, and radiology. They will be charged with leading all activities related to the cancer center, while supporting other strategic imperatives of the academic missions within our system, to include graduate medical education and research.

The Cancer Service Line Physician Executive will lead a multi-year initiative to transform and integrate cancer care across the Tufts Medicine network, with a focus on patient-centered high-quality care and seamless transitions across sites and clinicians and cutting-edge research.

The vision of the Tufts Cancer Center is to push the boundaries of compassionate cancer therapy by making the improbable possible through prevention, research, education, and patient-centered care.  Tufts Medicine offers a full spectrum of comprehensive cancer care among four hospital-based Cancer Programs within the greater Boston area, including one academic medical center and three community-based cancer centers, integrated under one academic mission and serving a large network of primary care clinicians and referring physicians.  Together we see >6000 new cancer cases across the system with > 50,000 existing patients annually.  We care for diverse populations of patients with a high level of complexity across our cancer sites, providing culturally tailored care with a focus on patient experience. Cancer physicians across all divisions and departments work collaboratively to provide consistently high-quality care that meets or exceeds comprehensive benchmarks. 

We maintain national accreditations with the American College of Surgeons – Commission on Cancer (CoC) and National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), Foundation for the Accreditation for Cellular Therapy (FACT), and American College of Radiology (ACR).  The Neely Center for Cancer Clinical Research provides the clinical trials infrastructure for the cancer programs and clinicians, maintaining a large portfolio of cooperative, industry, and investigator-initiated cancer clinical trials, with robust protocol review monitoring and IRB processes.  Tufts Medical Center, the academic medical center for Tufts Medicine, provides strong graduate medical training in Hematology and Oncology and Radiation Oncology, along with strong oncologic training in multiple surgical areas, gynecologic oncology, pathology, and radiology.

The Cancer Center partners with the Tufts Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute, the Tufts University School of Medicine, the Gerald J. and Dorothy R. Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy, the Tufts University Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, and numerous other graduate schools across Tufts University to revolutionize health education and inspire discovery.

Who You Are:

A physician executive leader with a successful track record of program development and academic success

A mentor with a proven track record of supporting the professional and academic accomplishments of others

Board Certified in Hematology-Oncology, Surgical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, or Gynecologic Oncology

Eligible for an academic appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor level 

Knowledgeable in healthcare quality, resource/financial management of a large organization, outcomes improvement, patient safety, and positive patient experience 

Builds and fosters effective teams that are diverse and inclusive and that are focused on advancing the Vision and Mission of the Cancer Center Service Line

Committed to network development, growth, operational efficiency and system integration across academic and community-based practices
