Responsibilities
Purpose:
St Joseph's Medical Center provides training in association and cooperation with its affiliated participating intuitions in Graduate Medical Education (GME) programs that meet the standards established by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and each specialties Residency Review Committees (RRC). Fellowship specialties fall under the governance of specific RRC based on subspecialty. Critical Care Medicine/Cardiovascular Disease Fellows are governed by the ACGME Internal Medicine RRC and as such the fellows will report to the program specific Program Director and the Internal Medicine Residency Program Director. The fellow will actively participate in all administrative duties related to running the Fellowship Program. This position is responsible for participation in all of the educational and clinical activities of the St Joseph's Fellowship Program(s) on a daily basis. This includes cooperation with all educational elements of the teaching program as well as providing clinical services to program patients within the St. Joseph's Medical Center and other approved clinical and training facilities. The fellow will lecture periodically throughout the year on select specialty topics during didactics and as needed with additional residency programs for current fellows residents and medical learners; development of educational programs; quality assurance measures; and continued development or interdepartmental relationships as it relates to the specialty. Possess a current certification or eligibility for certification by a specialty board recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS). Fellows must possess current medical licensure and appropriate medical staff appointment. The Fellow will demonstrate professionalism integrity and an ongoing spirit of intellectual curiosity. They will demonstrate compliance with all GME and Institutional policies procedures and medical staff bylaws.
Job Description:
Fellows will perform professional medical duties while undergoing advanced professional training under the general supervision of teaching faculty and community physicians at St Joseph's Medical Center and other participating sites. Fellows must complete all patient care documents in an accurate and timely manner as required by St. Joseph's Medical Center fellowship program management and other participating sites. Fellows will establish and maintain an environment of inquiry and scholarship with an active research component including regularly participating in organized clinical discussions rounds journal clubs and conferences as well as encouraging and supporting residents in scholarly activities.
Demonstrate scholarship by one or more of the following:
1. Peer-reviewed funding
2. Publication of original research or review articles in peer reviewed journals or chapters in textbooks;
3. Publication or presentation of case reports or clinical series at local regional or national professional and scientific society meetings; or
4. Participation in national committees or educational organizations.
Completes and adheres to all compliance and safety training as directed by St. Joseph's Medical Center California Medical Board ACGME participating sites and other outside surveying agencies.
