In this role, you will play an essential part in delivering comprehensive medical services to patients across both medical and psychiatric units. Working closely with an interdisciplinary team of healthcare professionals, you will contribute to patient-centered care by conducting thorough evaluations, managing acute and chronic conditions, and responding to medical emergencies with precision and empathy. Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):
• Conduct comprehensive medical evaluations, including admission and annual history and physical examinations, to manage acute and chronic patient conditions effectively, and write discharge summaries
• Order and interpret appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests to guide clinical decision-making and patient care plans.
• Lead interdisciplinary teams of nurses, social service personnel, physical and occupational therapists, and other medical personnel in making final decisions about patient care and treatment.
• Maintain accurate, comprehensive medical records in compliance with Medical Staff By-laws and external documentation standards.
• Communicate effectively with patients’ families, healthcare providers, and external agencies to ensure coordinated and patient-centered care.
• Prepare timely and detailed medical discharge summaries and complete legal or insurance documentation as required.
• Actively engage in quality improvement programs, including peer reviews, chart reviews, and professional practice evaluations.
• Participate in continuing medical education initiatives to stay informed about advancements in care relevant to the hospital’s mission.
• Respond promptly to medical emergencies across the hospital, including medical and psychiatric units, providing emergency stabilization as needed.
• Provide support to the Employee Health Clinic, assisting with acute medical issues and coordinating care for staff requiring immediate attention.
Required Qualifications:
• Current and valid registration as a physician under the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine.
• Demonstrated fundamental knowledge and skill in the practice of general medicine.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as patient profiles, medication orders, medical records and x-ray reports, and maintain accurate records.
• Ability to diagnose, classify and appropriately treat physical diseases and illnesses, including knowledge of the therapeutic approaches to the treatment of cardiovascular, neurological, gastrointestinal and metabolic diseases,
Preferred Qualifications:
• Board Certification in Internal Medicine or Family Practice highly preferred.
• ACLS certification.
• Ability to collaborate with and provide supervision to Nurse Practitioners.
• Competence in interpreting electrocardiograms (EKG’s) and providing signed report.
• Willingness to perform bedside procedures including, but not limited to, removal of central venous catheters, placement and removal of nasogastric (NG) tubes, emergency phlebotomies, and electrocardiograms.
• Special interest in and knowledge of care for post cute care patients, chronically ill, individuals with substance use disorders, intellectual and developmental disabilities, and others as serviced under Tewksbury Hospital mission.
