Physician - Pathologist & Physician Executive - Royal Oak, MI

EXCELLENT OPPORTUNTUNITY:   Pathologist, Service Line Chief and Physician Executive for the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine - Corewell Health in Southeast Michigan and the Medical Group. This individual will be responsible for promoting excellence in clinical care, research and education for the department. In collaboration with hospital and medical administrative leadership, this position is responsible for the operational and financial performance of the Pathology department. They support the creation of the vision and strategic plan for System level clinical activities, portfolio management and manpower planning and be responsible for administrative supervision of the department. Also responsible to promote consistently high standards for performance in clinical care, education, research, financial and operational performance in keeping with our pillars of Quality and Patient Safety; Service; People; Financial Performance; Growth and Academic Excellence.

Eligible candidates must be board certified in Anatomic Pathology by the American Board of Pathology, possess strong leadership skills, a teaching track record, and diagnostic expertise, preferably with 7 - 10 years of post-fellowship experience. Substantial experience as a clinical and operational collaborative thought leader in a large, multi-faceted academic medical center is required. A strong academic background with demonstrated academic accomplishments is also desirable. 

Annually, Corewell Health in Southeast Michigan Pathology and Laboratory Medicine performs approximately 150,000 surgical pathology accessions, 100,000 Pap tests and 22,000 non-gynecologic/FNA accessions. Corewell Health in Southeast Michigan is aligned with Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine. There is a pathology residency, as well as fellowships in cytopathology, hematopathology, clinical chemistry and blood banking. Academic appointment will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Qualifications:

M.D./D.O. with Board certification in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology; board-certification in surgical pathology desired.Experience as medical director of a laboratory section or subsection preferred.Additional experience as Chief, Vice-Chief or Associate Medical Director of a complex and large laboratory preferred.Experience in medical staff functions, working knowledge of hospital operations, quality improvement and strategic planning essential.Must have leadership as well as organizational skills, a persuasive communicator with strong interpersonal skills who is empathetic, a respectful listener and who can create an atmosphere that allows individuals to flourish within the context of the Department Plan. Can effectively operate in the complex environment of an academic health center effectively managing conflicting agendas.
