Physician - Pediatrician

Currently recruiting a board-certified part-time Pediatrician in San Antonio, Texas to provide General Pediatrician services in support of the Department of Pediatrics (PEDS) at the Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) at Joint Base San Antonio, located on Fort Sam Houston. The Contractor shall be available to provide support Monday through Friday from 0700 1700 hours daily. The Department shall establish a schedule for contract personnel to perform services on various shifts, which range from 8-10 hours.



DUTIES OF THE PEDIATRIC PHYSICIAN:
Provide medical examination, care, and treatment to eligible military healthcare system beneficiaries.Provide medical care and treatment of a full range of pediatric illness in the Pediatric Clinic. Review medical histories and progress of patients. Perform physical examination, diagnose disease or injury, and treat or prescribe a course of treatment for patients. Abide by all facility rules, regulations, and policies.Seek advice of consultant when appropriate.Instruct and monitor other medical personnel in care and treatment of patients to include physical examination, evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of patients and performance of medical procedures.Initiate requests for laboratory tests, radiographic studies, and admissions to the MTF as appropriate.Follow-up on abnormal laboratory and radiographic reports. Abnormal x-ray and lab reports received on patients seen by contract provider shall be reviewed by the contract provider within five business days of its receipt.Prescribe medications, as appropriate, and in accordance with clinical privileges and hospital rules and regulations.Prepare documentation of all treatment provided in accordance with hospital directives, ensuring that all documentation and reports are legible and complete. Utilize the appropriate electronic medical record system for patient encounters.Contract personnel shall maintain medical records IAW AF 40-55, Medical Record Administration. Medical records completed by contract personnel shall be subject to review by the Medical Director and a medical records review committee established by the MTF. Contract personnel shall be notified of deficiencies in their entries and shall correct the deficiencies within 48 hours of their scheduled shift. All records generated in the performance of the contract will remain the property of and subject to exclusive control of the government. All encounters will be completed within 72 hours of the visit.Provide technical guidance and direction to specific functional areas in the Pediatric Department as required. Attend all required conference, staff, and QI meetings.Under the guidance of the command designated Exceptional Family Membership Program (EFMP) physician, this clinician performs face to face screenings of the family members to identify medical and educational conditions that could potentially affect overseas travel and assignments. Contract personnel determines the need to register the family member in the EFMP and counsels individuals about the program. Review medical enrollment forms (DD 2792) for quality and consistency of information and ICD-9 coding. Reviews selected EFMP enrollment information from throughout the region to determine the need for continued enrollment and disenrollment, and to e-look at cases previously denied family travel to an overseas location. The work primarily involves face to face interviewing and reviewing of forms and medical records. Opportunity to perform other clinical work is at the discretion of the command designated EFMP physician.
QUALIFICATIONS OF THE PEDIATRIC PHYSICIAN:
Minimum of four (4) year of experience within the last five (5) years providing services as a Pediatric Physician.Doctorate degree from an accredited college approved by the Council on Medical Education and Hospitals of the American Medical Association. Foreign medical graduates must pass the Educational Commission Foreign Medical Graduate (ECFMG) test, as given by the EFCMG.Have successful completion of a residency program in Pediatrics which has been approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education or the Committee on Postdoctoral Training of the American Osteopathic Association or those Canadian training programs approved by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or other appropriate Canadian medical authority.Unrestricted license to practice as a Pediatrician in any state.PALS;BLS;Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) registration number (certificate) to prescribe controlled substances.U.S. Citizen (for access to Gov't computer systems).
