Fort Johnson (formerly Fort Polk) is an Army post located in Vernon Parish in Louisiana seven miles from Leesville, Louisiana. The city of Leesville, population 6700, is situated between Shreveport and Lake Charles. It is 63 miles to Lake Charles, Louisiana and 50 miles to Alexandria where the nearest municipal airport is located. **Responsibilities**
MAJOR DUTIES
Serves as a General Medical Officer (Radiology) in a Class I USA Hospital providing examination, diagnostic service, patient care and treatment of diseases and injuries by surgical and conservative means and consultation service for patients throughout the Radiology Department.
Provides radiological diagnostic service and treatment for active duty military, retired and dependents of active duty and retired military. Examines and treats problems in all age groups and is available as a practitioner and consultant in Radiology. Reviews and studies medical histories and progress of patients.
Provides radiological care for patients. Examines patient, makes diagnosis of disease, disorder, or injury and treats patient occasionally. Conserves health of personnel by application of diversified knowledge of preventive, diagnostic, and therapeutic medical and surgical measures. Performs radiological procedures in emergencies and seeks advice of consultants when required. Instructs and supervises other medical personnel in care and treatment of patients.
Participates in continuing education programs. Administers and prescribes medicine and treatment. Records medical data or case history on prescribed Army Medical Department or other agency forms as appropriate. Participates in Medical Audits as appropriate. Participates in training of physician assistants, medical students, and radiologic technologists. Takes call on evenings, weekends, and holidays as required. 100%
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
Receives general administrative supervision from the Chief, Department of Radiology who: (1) Ensures work is performed within Army and Bayne-Jones Army Community Hospital policies; (2) allows incumbent to exercise his professional skills independently; (3) and reviews work in terms of contribution to the missions of Moncrief Army Hospital.
Performs other duties as assigned.
**Qualifications**
Basic Requirements: Degree: Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy from a school in the United States or Canada approved by a recognized accrediting body in the year of the applicant's graduation. A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school that provided education and medical knowledge substantially equivalent to accredited schools in the United States may be demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) (or a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country).
