What You'll Do:

 

As a Pilot Line Supervisor, you'll be at the forefront of our innovation, bringing exceptional innovative products from our research labs to our commercial manufacturing facilities . You'll collaborate with a diverse group of passionate individuals to deliver sustainable solutions to advance mobility, improve wellbeing and enhance modern life.

The Pilot Line Supervisor is accountable for providing leadership and management to the Avon Lake TPU Process Technology (PT) organization. This role is focused on providing short term guidance to pilot line technicians and carrying out a strategic vision for the pilot line. The Supervisor is responsible for coaching and developing the operations staff while providing mentorship and support to the other PT engineers. As a leader within the PT organization, the Supervisor will continue to foster a strong commitment to Corporate and site HSE initiatives, including Process Safety Management (PSM) and 5S Methodology. As a part of the PT organization, this role offers an opportunity to draw insight from both manufacturing and commercial functions of the Engineered Polymers business.

  

Supervise pilot plant operations and pilot plant operators to scale-up products from lab-to-pilot-to-commercial manufacturing in continuous extrusion thermoplastic at the Avon Lake, OH facility Develop and coach pilot line operators. This includes conducting annual reviews, career development discussions, safety and cultural discussion and providing timely feedback Coordinate priorities, scheduling, and reporting of continuous reactive extrusion, secondary/post processing, and melt compounding pilot line operation Manage the Avon Lake pilot line schedule and communicate the priorities monthly to targeted stakeholders Determine bill of material needs and work with Avon Lake material coordinator to secure raw materials for the pilot line Actively manage non-working, slow-moving (NWSM) inventory Supervise, lead, and execute judicious initiatives for the pilot line, including capital expansions, business processes, and organizational structure improvements Design processes, prepare engineering estimates, and coordinate capital projects on pilot plant equipment Convey and ensure Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) procedural compliance within the pilot line operations organization, including periodic audits of operations staff for safety procedural compliance (e.g. LOTO, PSM), organizing routine Leader Standard Work (LSW) walkthroughs, and ensuring environmental compliance with regulations (e.g. SARA 311/312 and others) Communicate with technical and non-technical members of product development teams to understand and apply project needs for successful scale up and product realization Apply and maintain systems associated with new chemical introduction, Responsible Care Management System (RCMS), Management of Change (MOC), Process Safety Management (PSM), and the Pilot Plant Request (PPR) Convey plant goals to pilot line organization to ensure alignment with the broader organization. This includes attending the weekly Avon Lake managers meeting Manage pilot line expense and capital budget and attend monthly budget review meetings Work with the Avon Lake Plant Accountant to review monthly raw material consumptions, R&D material tax credits and budget deviations Generate yearly management feedback report which captures key measures of success
 

What We are Looking For: 

 

Bachelor of Science (B.S.) or higher-level degree in Chemical Engineering 2 or more years of pilot or manufacturing operations experience required

 

Skills That Make a Difference:

Previous personnel management experience preferred Strong central knowledge in chemical engineering principals with proven problem-solving abilities Strong project management skills utilizing stage-gate systems and job aids Strong “hands-on” mechanical and chemical process engineering skills Knowledge of chemical and polymer unit operations, including process and equipment design Knowledge of experimental design (DOE) and data analysis using central statistical techniques and statistical software Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills Ability to work with others at all levels and in multiple locations within the organization Experience managing both internal and external customer expectations Basic knowledge of thermoplastic polyurethane polymerization manufacturing and chemistry preferred
