As a Pilot Plant Manager, you will safely manage the operation of Imerys British Lithium’s industry leading Pilot Plant, and develop the scale-up of novel process technologies for extracting lithium from micaceous granites, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and following IBL & Imerys Health, Safety, Environment and Quality standards and procedures.


The job role: will involve dialogue with internal process engineers, external parties, design engineers, and other project stakeholders in trialling, de-risking and validating the process technology that will deliver lithium carbonate products to the market.


You will:  Be accountable for the safe and effective execution of scale-up / pilot trials, leading into long term operations to demonstrate process technology selection, providing engineering design data and production of commissioning and operating plans for the British Lithium Project whilst; 


Managing the Pilot Plant Operations team of engineers, technicians and shift operators.Resourcing planning, scheduling, coaching and developing, organising work programmes to facilitate improvement and drive execution.Taking ownership of the Pilot Plant facility, including fixed plant equipment, ancillary services, building facilities, laboratories and internal offices.Promoting continuous improvement of the Pilot Plant facility, including the identification, design and implementation of improvements to the above areas.Performing Health, Safety and Environmental activities within the Pilot Plant facility.Managing delegated budgets for sustaining capital and operating expenditure.Operating Plan, effectively coordinating operations, maintenance and scale-up trial activities.Be the project expert for operability, process safety and workforce planning, having a regular input to business decision making in the presence of company Directors and senior stakeholders.Responsible for the transfer of operational learning into process engineering deliverables for the design of the commercial CAB and LCR plants, including engineering design packages, equipment specifications, input on philosophies, plant layouts, risk reviews, permits, procurement, quality processes, and plant commissioning.Responsible for the development and maintenance of safe systems of work across maintenance, project and operations activities

What do we ask you in return? You will be responsible for safeguarding employees and visitors in the Pilot Plant, ensuring the plant areas are presentable at all times. This role is entirely site-based, with domestic travel to technology / EPC contractors and to meetings at HQ, Exploration or IML Plant sites required infrequently.


You will have planning and prioritising skills, be a problem solver and effective decision maker whilst having;


Tertiary qualification in process, mineral, chemical, or mechanical engineering, or equivalent industry experience.Experience of process plant operations and / or process engineering in a fixed plant environment.Demonstrable leadership skills; mixed team (Science, Engineering and Operations) Demonstrable Project Management skills in large capital projects.Experience in common plant operations & maintenance software, such as SAP, Enablon,Experience in the maintenance, modification and operation of pilot scale mineral and chemical process technologies.Working knowledge of H&S standards, behavioural safety and safety systems. EssentialWorking knowledge of COSH Regulations. Knowledge of process engineering design drawings and documentation.IOSH Managing Safety, SHE NVQ Level 4, or similar.NEBOSH Environmental Awareness at Work, or similar. Experience of managing multiple stakeholders across sites and functions with a clear collaboration mindset.Able to navigate complexity, overcome hurdles, and engage constructively with peers, team members, and line management.Able to deputise effectively for your immediate line manager.
