**Job Title: Welder**
**Job Description**
Analyzes job from start to finish ensuring proper and safe work methods are used. Cleans and prepares surfaces to be welded. Joins, fabricates, and repairs metal and other material by applying appropriate welding techniques and following safety procedures. Must be familiar with OSHA standards and requirements. Inspects completed welds to ensure visual acceptance. Notifies supervisor of any safety or equipment issues. Keeps equipment and work area clean and orderly.
**Responsibilities**

+ Clean and prepare surfaces to be welded.
+ Join, fabricate, and repair metal and other materials by applying appropriate welding techniques and following safety procedures.
+ Familiarity with OSHA standards and requirements.
+ Inspect completed welds to ensure visual acceptance.
+ Notify supervisor of any safety or equipment issues.
+ Keep equipment and work area clean and orderly.
**Essential Skills**
+ Experience as a ship fitter, shipfitter, vessel work, ship work.
+ Ability to cut, align, and lay out blueprints and drawings.
+ Proficiency with hand tools, frame, tack weld, torches, and plasma cutters.
**Additional Skills & Qualifications**
+ 1st class needs 7 years as a marine welder with stable job history.
+ 2nd class needs 3 to 4 years of experience.
+ Ability to read blueprints.
+ 1st class must be able to pass a pipe test.
+ 2nd class must pass a 3 position stick test.

**Work Environment**
Must be able to get DBIDS working at Naval bases. The role requires the use of various tools and safety equipment including framing square, combination square, bevel square, ballpeen hammer, various wrenches and clamps, tape measures, chalk line, torch tip cleaners, burning glasses, welding shield, striker, flashlight, grinder, hard hat, safety glasses, face shield, work gloves, steel toe shoes, and a socket set. The shipyard environment emphasizes safety and adherence to OSHA standards.
**Job Type & Location**
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Norfolk, Virginia.
**Pay and Benefits**
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $28.00/hr.
