We have partnered with NASA to support space flight programs for more than 40 years. While the majority of work is directly in support of LaRC, other industry partners and Government agencies may be supported at remote sites as directed by the Contracting Officer (CO). The Center Maintenance, Operations, and Engineering (CMOE) contract comprises of three major categories of work – operations, maintenance, and engineering (OME), as described below. •Maintenance – Research and institutional facility maintenance includes, but not limited to, preventive maintenance, trouble calls, repairs, Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM), Facility Condition Assessment (FCA), and maintenance/operation of central utilities (e.g., electrical power distribution, potable water, storm water drainage) •Operations – Facilities Operations support includes, but not limited to, wind tunnels, laboratories, and test stands testing, instrumentation calibration/repair; plant and utilities (e.g., high pressure air, Liquid Nitrogen (LN2) and Steam Plant); technology development and administration, including, but not limited to, Facility Automation Systems (FAS) and Data Acquisition Systems (DAS) •Engineering – Facility engineering includes, but not limited to, engineering studies, design, construction, construction management, configuration management, tactical engineering, pressure system recertification, project management/planning support.

We are looking for a hardworking, dependable person who wants to be a part of our Maintenance Services team. This is a IBEW union position supporting first shift. You are reporting to only one location, NASA Langley Research Center.

Responsibilities\:

Lays out, assembles, installs and maintains pipe systems, pipe supports and related hydraulic, pneumatic and high pressure systems for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling and industrial production and processing systems Selects type and size of pipe, and related equipment such as hangers and hydraulic cylinders to meet specification Inspects work site to determine presence of obstructions and to ascertain that holes cut for pipe will not cause structural weakness Plans installation and repair of pipe using saws, pipe cutter, hammers and chisels, cutting torch, and pipe cutting machines Threads pipe, using pipe threading machine Assembles and installs variety of metal and non-metal pipes, tubes and fittings Connects pipe using threaded, caulked, soldered, brazed, fused or cemented joints and hand tools Increases pressure in piping system and observes connected pressure gauge to test system for leaks Some plumbing work *

U.S. citizenship required. Six years experience or any equivalent combination of experience and training in a designated field, craft, or trade that can be documented by a certificate or diploma from a reputable organization, school, or trade program.  Must be able to effectively communicate with others.

Test environment-May be exposed to areas of high noise levels, hazardous propellants, explosives, chemicals and industrial facilities (90%).
Travel between various facilities and during test operations required and may bring exposure to loud noise and potentially hazardous equipment operations (10%)

Physical Requirements\:

Visual and physical (hands on) contact of test related systems, hardware and articles. Must be able to walk, stand, bend, twist and sit for extended periods as well as climb various heights, crawl in confined spaces, and lift up to 35 lbs (100%). Ability to distinguish basic colors (10%). Corrected vision and hearing at all times (100%). 

Must be able to use the following\:

Platform or A-frame ladders up to 12 Ft (30%) Extension ladders up to 24 Ft (10%) Personal or one man aerial lifts up to 30 Ft. (10%) Articulating or boom aerial lifts up to 35 Ft. (10%)

 

Equipment and Machines\:
Will use hand tools/power tools/mechanical/electrical control devices. (40%)  Personal computers and related equipment (20%).
Safety and personal protective equipment (100%).

Attendance\:
Regular attendance mandatory (100%).
Occasional overtime/work outside normal schedule may be required (<20%).

Other Essential Functions\:
U. S. citizenship is required. Valid driver's license is required. Must be able to work in a team atmosphere. Must put forward a professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation. Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others. Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance as required. CMOE maintenance employees will exercise diligence when developing a Safe Plan of Action (SPA) for each task performed. Your SPA is a Company provided tool to be used for the prevention of incidents, accidents and injuries; as such, it is the most important tool that you are required to use.
