We are seeking a highly skilled pipefitter to join our team. The successful candidate will review work package details, including technical information, specifications, drawings, manuals, and sketches. You will be responsible for the repair, modification, installation, assembly, removal, testing, flushing, and troubleshooting of shipboard and industrial piping systems and related equipment.
ResponsibilitiesReview technical information, specification items, drawings, manuals, and sketches.Work independently and read blueprints.Fabricate, repair, install, and test marine piping systems using blueprints for guidance.Install and maintain ship piping systems such as steam heat and power, hot water, hydraulic, air pressure, and oil lines following blueprints, layouts, and work orders.Plan layout of pipe sections, ensuring conformance to specifications, obstructions, and holes.Cut and bore holes in bulkheads and decks for pipe installation.Operate shop machines to cut and thread pipe and pipe fittings including valves, traps, and thermostats.Bend pipe to specified shape on pipe-bending fixtures.Bolt or weld pipe brackets to support pipe systems.Connect pipes to fixtures such as heat exchangers, laundry, and galley equipment, pumps, and tanks.Repair, pack, and adjust valves.Test installed systems for leaks and ensure that the system meets specifications.Essential Skills2-5+ years of experience as a pipefitter in a shipyard.Proficiency in fitting and brazing.Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and work packages.DBIDS eligible.Additional Skills & QualificationsProficiency in silver brazing.Experience with marine piping systems.Skill in bending, burning, and fitting.Work EnvironmentWork will be performed aboard various shipyard facilities in San Diego, CA, including Nassco, BAE, CMSD, North Island, and the Naval Base on 32nd street. Shifts can start as early as 5 am and may extend up to 10-hour days.Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Diego, California.Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $27.00 - $30.00
