Job Description
An Ingalls First-Class Pipefitter, also referred to as a Journeyman Pipefitter, is responsible for fitting pipe consisting of various materials such as steel, galvanized, copper, copper-nickel and stainless along with the appropriate valves and fittings, utilizing various tools and equipment in accordance with drawing, arrangements and blue prints. Ingalls shipyard production areas at times involve working at different heights, confined spaces, different weather conditions as well as multiple shifts 24 hours a day. As with most every position in the shipyard, a Pipefitter may be required to work either day or night dependent upon the number of ships under construction at any one point in time. Ingalls stresses the practice of working safely in all situations with safety procedures meeting, and most times, exceeding industry standards.
Basic QualificationsMinimum of 4+ years in operating and/or testing A/C and refrigeration.
Must have EPA 608 type 1 and 2 cerifications
DoD EPA CFC/HCFC Refrigerant Processing Certificate Verification
Basic math, reading and comprehension skills
Knowledge of the layout, fit-up, fabrication and installation of pipe, flanges and valves
Read and interpret trade drawings and/or blueprints utilizing both metric and standard measurements
Preferred Qualifications6+ Yrs. marine, shipbuilding and construction experience
Knowledge of setting and erecting units with proficiency in the use of Datum Lines
Familiarity with fit-up, alignment tolerances and advanced blue print reading skills
