Your work environment at EXP
In this role, you will be a part of the Oil, Gas & Chemicals team, based in Brampton, ON office and responsible for piping system design, fabrication, and installation, for projects in the oil, gas & chemical industry. The role requires expertise in piping design, piping material selection, fabrication, and installation procedures. The Piping Designer must ensure that all piping systems comply with industry standards and project specifications, and that they are installed and maintained safely and efficiently.
What a day at EXP has in store for you
Design and layout of intricate piping systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards, regulations, and project specifications. Technical Expertise: Apply in-depth knowledge of piping design principles, materials, components, and construction methods to produce accurate and efficient piping layouts. 3D Modeling: Utilize advanced 3D modeling software (such as SP3D, AutoCAD Plant 3D, or similar) to create detailed piping models and equipment arrangements. Equipment Integration: Collaborate with process engineers, mechanical engineers, civil structural engineers, Instrumentation engineers, and other stakeholders to integrate various equipment and instruments into the overall piping design. Materials Selection: Recommend appropriate materials for piping components based on compatibility with process fluids, temperature, pressure, and corrosion considerations. Support Documentation: Prepare comprehensive design documentation, including isometric drawings, Piping plan and section drawings, material take-offs, Valve list, Piping Specialty Item specification/list, Line list, and pipe and instrument diagrams (P&IDs). Quality Assurance: Review and verify design deliverables for accuracy, consistency, and compliance with project requirements.Team Collaboration: Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, drafters, and project managers, to ensure seamless communication and coordination throughout the design and construction phases. Construction Support: Provide support during the construction phase by addressing design-related queries, participating in design reviews, and offering solutions to on-site challenges. Risk Mitigation: Identify potential design risks and provide innovative solutions to mitigate these risks, ensuring safe and efficient piping systems. Continuous Improvement: Stay updated with the latest industry trends, software advancements, and best practices, and apply this knowledge to enhance the efficiency and quality of the design process.
What your experience looks like
Extensive experience (typically 5+ years) in piping design within the Oil and Gas and/or Chemical industry. Experience in Sulfuric Acid Plants is a plus. Proficiency in using industry-standard design software, such as AutoCAD Plant 3D, SmartPlant 3D, etc. Excellent knowledge of process equipment integration and layout optimization. Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail. Familiarity with 3D modeling, isometric drawing creation, GA drawings generation, and P&ID interpretation. Strong understanding of piping codes and standards, such as ASME, API, and ANSI. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, for collaborating with cross-functional teams and clients.EXP subscribes to the Workplace Equity Program.
